Salut
Ciao
FIVE STAGES OF A DOWNSWING
Denial:
Denial is the first of the five stages of a downswing. In this stage, the game becomes meaningless and overwhelming. Ranges makes no sense. We wonder how we can go on. We try to find a way to simply get through each session. We cannot believe the mounting loss and dwindling balance on Stars.
Anger:
Anger is the second stage of a downswing. You may ask, Where is God in this? We lash out at everything, the game, the site, the RNG, the villains or most commonly the mouse. We berate regs in the chatbox. The negativity often carries over to real life.
Bargaining:
Before each flip, it seems like you will do anything if only you can chop the pot. “Please God, ” you bargain, “Please just let me HOOOOOOLD one time.” After another losing session, you wish you can wake up and realize this has all been a bad dream?” We become lost in a maze of “If only…” or “What if…” statements. We want life returned to what is was; we want our confidence restored.
Depression:
After bargaining, our attention moves squarely to the cashier. This depressive stage feels as though it will last forever. We withdraw the remaining balance, uninstall Stars in a fog of intense sadness, wondering, perhaps, if there is any point in this silly game? Why grind at all?
Acceptance:
This stage is about accepting the reality that our roll is gone, our poker skill inadequate and this is the permanent reality. We must try to live now in a world where you are the fish. In resisting this new norm, at first many people want to play the same limit as before. In time, through yet another busted redeposit, however, we see that we cannot beat even SSPLO. The game has been forever changed. We begin to play again, but only in chromestar freerolls.
